Cricket World Cup 2023: Beckham humbled to watch Kohli masterclass

David Beckham admitted to feeling “humbled” after being present to watch India superstar Virat Kohli break the record for the most one-day international centuries today.

Kohli smashed a wonderful 117 off 113 balls against New Zealand to surpass Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 49 ODI tons and help India reach 397 for four from their 50 overs in their World Cup semi-final.

Former Manchester United, Real Madrid and England midfielder Beckham was there as a UNICEF ambassador and enjoyed the occasion.

“It’s just a real pleasure to be in this stadium and witness a piece of history,” he told Sky Sports.

“I know what Sachin achieved in this stadium, for his country and for the sport but to see Virat do it today was incredible.

“I love coming to stadiums with great atmospheres and this [the Wankhede in Mumbai] is one of the best. To witness a piece of history in this atmosphere, it’s goosebumps…

“Before the match even started you walked out and felt there was something special in this stadium. I feel very humbled and lucky to be here.”
