The Open Championship History

The Open was first played in 1860 and has since become one of the most prestigious golfing tournaments in the whole world. The Open is steeped in history, and for good reason. Winning The Open Open at St Andrew’s is often considered to be the pinnacle of the golfing scene. This is something that Cameron Smith achieved in 2022 at the 150th anniversary of the historic tournament. Harry Vardon has won The Open the most times, having won the competition a record six times between 1896 and 1914. This year’s Open will be the first time it has been held in the city of Liverpool since 2014. The Open is often played across different courses around Britain, but once every five years, it is held at the historic Old Course in St Andrews in Scotland.
