T20 World Cup 2024: Ireland v Pakistan – preview, expected line-ups, free bets and offers

The State of Play

Pakistan go into their final Group A game at the T20 World Cup with their elimination already confirmed.

It has been a thoroughly joyless tournament for Pakistan, who suffered their earliest ever exit with their fate sealed after just three games.

A Super Over loss to the United States set to the tone and, although they did improve against India – dominating the contest for the most part – they still emerged on the losing side due to the brilliance of Jasprit Bumrah.

A seven-wicket win over Canada gave them hope but they were still relying on results elsewhere to secure a place in the Super Eight.

And that scenario failed to play out with even the weather conspiring against them to send the United States through after their game with Ireland in Lauderhill was washed out.

The inquest had already started in Pakistan with PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi stating after the loss to India that the team required “major surgery” to get back on track.

Expectations were obviously a lot different for Ireland, but the no result against the US also meant their hopes of going through came to a premature end.

Paul Stirling’s men will hope to register their first win of the tournament, although the weather in Florida may again cause problems.

Ireland have lost their two completed games so far, to India and Canada.

Expected line-ups

Ireland: Balbirnie, Stirling (c), Tucker (wk), Tector, Campher, Dockrell, Delany, Adair, McCarthy, Little, Young

Pakistan: Rizwan (wk), Ayub, Azam (c), Zaman, U Khan, S Khan, Wasim, Shah Afridi, Shah, Rauf, Amir

How to watch

Sky have the rights to show the T20 World Cup to UK viewers in 2024 and will broadcast every game live. Coverage gets underway on Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Cricket from 3pm UK time on Sunday afternoon.

In India, the games can be streamed on Disney + Hotstar app and website. They are also available across the Star Sports Network.

Prediction

It definitely comes down to desire at this stage with both sides already out and with seemingly little to play for, other than pride.

Pakistan have been a huge disappointment, while Ireland will also leave the US feeling as though they could have done more, especially when they look at the enormous progress made by the United States.

Ultimately, we’re not confident either side will win this due to the forecast which has scheduled more rain.
