T20 World Cup 2024: Australia v Scotland – preview, expected line-ups, free bets and offers

The State of Play

Despite all the suggestions of Australia skullduggery at the T20 World Cup 2024, Scotland opener Michael Jones is not expecting an easy ride in Antigua tomorrow.

Australia go into the game having already qualified for the Super Eight with either Scotland or England set to join them.

England’s record win against Oman, in which they reached their victory target of 48 in just 19 balls, means net run-rate, such a hot topic prior to yesterday, can almost be discounted as a deciding factor.

The permutations are now much simpler. If England, who play Namibia first, win then Scotland must beat Australia later in the day to advance.

Jones knows Australia won’t be doing his side any favours despite some light-hearted comments from the Aussie camp this week.

He told PA Sport: “At the end of the day our team wants the best result we can get, but on a personal level you want to challenge yourself against the best.

“To have the opportunity to bat against Jofra Archer and Mark Wood, then Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc, that’s the best in the world. Those are the opportunities we crave as Scotland teams. You want to challenge yourself and see how far you go against those guys.

“The Australians are renowned for being extremely diligent and extremely professional. I’m absolutely certain they will come out all guns blazing like they do for every game at every tournament.

“I almost hope they do go full strength on Saturday and we can show the cricket world we’re up to the challenge. I’m absolutely certain they will come out all guns blazing like they do for every game at every tournament.”

Australia may make some changes with qualification secured but it’s likely spinner Adam Zampa will play.

Zampa took four for 12 in the nine-wicket win over Namibia last time out to earn the praise of his captain Mitch Marsh.

Marsh said: “If you look at his career, over the past four or five years, he is probably our most important player, in our structure. He loves the big moment, the pressure and he is bowling beautifully at the moment.”

Expected line-ups

Australia: Warner, Head, Marsh (c), Maxwell, Green, David, Inglis (wk), Ellis, Starc, Zampa, Hazlewood

Scotland: Munsey, Jones, McMullen, Berrington (c), Cross (wk), Leask, Greaves, Watt, Sole, Wheal, Sharif

How to watch

Sky have the rights to show the T20 World Cup to UK viewers in 2024 and will broadcast every game live. Coverage gets underway on Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Cricket from 01:00 UK time on Sunday morning.

In India, the games can be streamed on Disney + Hotstar app and website. They are also available across the Star Sports Network.

Despite making changes, Australia ought to be too strong, particularly as those coming into the side will be desperate to make an impression.

Australia have looked arguably the strongest of the contenders in the early goings of the tournament and they won’t want to lose momentum and suffer a massive upset, even if it does knock out old rivals England.

We’re going for an Australia win that won’t be without its challenges but Marsh’s men will get the job done.
